Three Little Piggies

“We have to fight them daily, like fleas, those many small worries about the morrow, for they sap our energies.”
– Etty Hillesum

Three Little Piggies – 10″ x 14″ Watercolor & Sharpie

Today is the first day of Eufaula’s 27th Annual Whole Hawg Days.  I thought it would be a perfect fit to post the little pigs I painted on Sunday.  Click that link to see the logo I designed this year.  They cut it off some, but you can still see it.

If you’re a local, come on out and join the fun.  The folks at the Eufaula Area Chamber of Commerce work really hard to make this a great event every year.

About Etty Hillesum

Etty Hillesum, less famous than her contemporary, Anne Frank, lived a short life of great courage. She was born in 1914 in the Netherlands to a Dutch father and a Russian mother. She studied law, Slavic languages, and psychology. Hungry for knowledge, she cut down on food in order to buy books. She went voluntarily to the Westerbork camp to help fellow Jews interned by the Nazis. Her letters detail her experiences; her more meditative diary focuses on issues of faith. She died at Auschwitz in 1943.

By the way I like your watercolour painting of these pigs, they are rather delightful my friend, I would have added this thought to my previous comment but I figured that it would not be fitting to do so…

    Have a lovely week ahead…

Thanks so much for your comments. I really enjoy putting out a positive thought each morning, along with a little bio on the author. If my art or the thoughts make you smile, then I am doing something good. 🙂

Indeed your ideas are very sound my friend, you are not only offering your reader base a wonderful feast of your artistic talent, but you are also adding to the optimism of the moment, which has to be a very positive route in my way of thinking…

        Be well Beth…
And of course enjoy your day and evening also

Perhaps less famous but certainly not less significant, I don’t know anything about Etty Hillesum other than what you have offered here within the lines of your posting but I shall definitely take a look now that you have mentioned her here.

She must have had such courage to help fellow interns at Auschwitz and the sadness portrayed in her demise is something that we should all share, maybe just a moment of tranquil thought to reflect on such a rather courageous young woman, her letters and diaries are very precious, as are the letters and diaries in the history of Anne Frank.

Thank you for offering this posting as it breathes life back into these young women and indeed all that were so cruelly treated and murdered, amongst the masses there were so many young lives that should not have died so terribly and indeed so young. I have just briefly had a look and Etty Hillesum was twenty nine years of age, and that is indeed a tragedy and a terrible waste of a young life, as in so many other lives that were taken well before their time.

    Be well my friend…
